Unique Screening Application

TEXAS SHAKER preprocessing screener removes dirt and sticks from field-harvested in-hull almonds at Kernpareil Almonds in Wasco, Calif. First, dirt is removed in the screener’s 6-foot-long screening section, then the almonds and sticks enter a 6-foot-long alignment section. In this section, some of the stick-free almonds drop through perforations for transfer to the process, and the remainder, with sticks, enters a stick-extraction zone. After the sticks and dirt are removed, the almonds are ready for further processing. Dual-purpose screener is 6 feet wide by 12 feet long and preprocesses almonds at 60 t/h. Screener’s four-bearing vibrator is powered at a constant speed by a 5-horsepower motor.

This screener will also appear on the cover of Powder Bulk Engineering's February issue.  Please check back because we will post a link on our website as soon as it is released.

The More You Know...
This question came across our FAQ section of our website this week.

Q: For suspension rods, our drawings call for grade 5 bolts. Our stock room has brought in grade 8 bolts. What are the technical issues if any by going to grade 8. Will we be wearing out other components instead of the bolts?

A: Grade 8 bolts have a higher tensile and yield strength than grade 5. Bolts used on the suspension rods provide a clamp load to prevent the inner sleeve of the bushing from rotating as well as a shear point for the vertical loading. Since the values for the grade 8 bolts are greater than the recommended grade 5, no issues are found with substitution in this application.

Thank you John Collard, Frito Lay for your question.

Equipment Spotlight: Gravity Separators

Triple/S Gravity Separators use a combination of air flow and vibration to create a separation of materials which have dissimilar densities.  Considered the most efficient separators for many dry materials applications, Triple/S gravity separators are highly effective in the following applications:

  • Agricultural commodity cleaning
  • Reclaiming of applications in materials recycling
  • Mineral separations
  • Filter media separations
